The last phase of exterior wall preparation has been done. These areas are to receive stucco as part of the regulations. Wooden exteriors buildings in Japan are rare because of the regulations designed to prevent the spread of a fire from one structure to the next. This forces us to have a synthetic stucco finish applied on the south and north first floor walls and all second floor walls. This will be done in a dark brown color and will turn out to be a great accent to the exterior view of the house. A side benefit is that I will not have to be climbing on a ladder to the peaks of the roof every few years applying preservative to the wood. Instead I will be able to do it from a step ladder!
The steps shown in these pictures is a 100% coverage of roofing-style tar paper then a web of stainless steel mesh for the mortar to adhere to. The mortar will be applied next week and the final color coat/sealant will be applied a week later. This will finish the exterior and the scaffolding can come down!
